Basic Meditation Exercises

Jun 30, 2009

Meditation exercises are effective means of reducing stress and teaching your body and mind to relax. Not only that, such exercises can also help build self-confidence and self-esteem. And most importantly, just like any other exercise, it can help you maintain your good health and keep you in great shape. There are many types of meditation exercises that you can do. It would depend in their ability to make you feel relax and relieve you of stress. One that you can try out is the walking meditation. It is a form of meditation that monks do as a habit in monasteries. What they do is walk the on a quiet area for a time while contemplating or meditating on something. It can be so easy that you can do it too. In doing the walking meditation, what you need to do is find yourself a set path. It can be a circular track, a sports field, or even a large garden good enough for walking on. Start by walking the path in order to get to know the route. Once you have gotten used to it, begin taking in breaths in a slow and deep breath and then let it out slowly. As you do this, try to be conscious of your body. Feel or sense your entire body and be aware of its every parts. Try to walk slowly. As you are walking try to mentally be aware of how your body is functioning as it moves. Do not attempt to criticize every function or movement. Just try to be aware of how your body moves or works as it walks. At first it might come off as silly for some people. But just like any other forms of meditation, it is not something that you should rush. You need to get comfortable with it. Sometimes distractions may come and they usually do. It is normal, especially on the initial days that a thought comes into your head like: "This is silly" or, "I have to do the dishes". When they do, just try to push them gently away, and continue on with your walking. You can do this for 10 or 15 minutes, take a bit of rest, and then get on with your normal routine in life. Another simple meditation exercise that you can do is what is known as the "Step inside a Painting" technique. You can start by finding a painting or picture that you enjoy looking at. Place it a few feet away from you and at a comfortable visual distance. Find a comfortable place to sit on, preferably some area in your home where you will not be disturbed. When you already have your painting and quite area ready, try to close your eyes. Be aware of how you breathe. Just be attentive to how your body functions as it is breathing in and breathing out. Try to keep everything as they are and try not to change anything, even the timing of your breathing. After a couple of minutes, you will notice your body beginning to slow down. At this point, you can open your eyes and look at the chosen painting. Simply gaze at the picture. Be aware of the scenery, the lines, and the colors of the painting before you. Try to set the picture in your mind. Once you have it captured in your mind, close your eyes once again. Create the picture mentally and imagine yourself walking into the picture. Have yourself stand inside the picture in your mind. Take a look through the frame and to the place where you are sitting. Allow your mind to take you into the picture. Explore and be aware of your surroundings as you are inside the painting. It can be quite an adventure trying to lea some of these meditation exercises.

Discovering dragon Reiki

When it comes to spiritual healing, dragon Reiki is considered as one of the most popular forms there is. This is because many people who have tried it believe that this kind of Reiki is very effective and powerful in terms of calming the person's emotional upheavals that cause great stress. Unlike the traditional Reiki—which is practiced only to bring the feelings of serenity and peacefulness in a person—dragon Reiki is preferred by more and more people especially those who are suffering from terminal illnesses. This is because many patients believe that because of the powerful life energy force that is awakened in during a session, it gives the patient more will and optimism to live and get well. Because of the effectivity of dragon in healing people who suffer from major illnesses, this has been practiced in many medical institutions juts like clinics and hospitals. In fact, more and more hospitals are offering dragon Reiki as a part of the overall treatment process because the doctors themselves believe that this fuels the hope and positivism of the patient. Just like the traditional practice of Reiki, dragon Reiki was discovered and originated in Japan. But, in order to veer away from the confines of the traditional practice, various Reiki masters opted to conduct further studies away from its origin country to make it more versatile, effective, and powerful. These Reiki masters traveled all parts of the world and search for practices and concepts that can improve the dragon Reiki healing. One of the countries where Reiki masters stayed for a long time in studying this art of healing is China. Being a country—where various traditional and alteative healing were existent—Reiki masters discovered that people in this country could help them in improving this art of healing. The country is also advantageous for Reiki masters because the Chinese tradition believed that an effective spiritual healing could be derived from the sanctity of the dragon. Believing that that "dragon" can be strong link in healing a person's spirit because of its innate connection with nature, any people in China adopted the concept of the healing process. True enough, more and more Chinese people were into dragon Reiki as a healing form and spread the world to the rest of the country. In a matter of years, dragon Reiki became one of the most opted and popular forms of spiritual healing in all parts of the country. Healing through dragon Reiki Since it has stemmed from the traditional Reiki, which uses the person's innate life energy force, dragon Reiki also makes use of this invisible force—only, it focuses on the person's balanced spirituality. Dragon Reiki masters say that a person can be healed through this form of healing if they can develop the ability to bring forth their emotional and physical life forces. To be able to be healed, people must have a proper balance of spirituality to be able to awaken the positivism in them. When a person achieves this balance in spirit, he/she can live life to its fullest extent—stress free and content. What sets dragon Reiki from the other types is that it aims to heal not only the person's body and emotions but also nurtures his or her spirituality—opening newer and larger horizons for change and growth.

Massage Therapy Benefits

Jun 29, 2009

Massage therapy has been used for centuries. In fact, there are so many of them around with the purpose of encouraging healing by promoting blood flow, relieving tension, stimulating nerves as well as stretching and loosening muscles and connective tissue to keep them elastic. Read on further to find out what are the other massage therapy benefits. Massage therapy is beneficial because it reduces waste products such as lactic and carbonic acid that builds up after an activity which causes cramping, discomfort and irritability that can happen after working out at the gym. By working with a therapist, he or she will be able to enhance your immune system and aid in the recovery of the tissues by increasing blood circulation in the affected areas. If you are ill, massage therapy dilates and opens up blood vessels, improves circulation and relieves congestion. It also increases the number of red blood cells for those who are anemic. Massage therapy also acts as a mechanical cleanser pushing along the lymph and hastening the elimination of wastes and toxic debris. It also helps to eliminate edema or dropsy of the extremities. It also increases blood supply and nutrition to the muscles without adding to the load of toxic acid produced by muscle contraction. This helps you overcome harmful fatigue resulting from strenuous exercise or injury. This will also improve muscle tone and prevent or delay muscular atrophy resulting from forced inactivity. It can also relax muscle spasms and relieve tension. Massage to some extent compensates for lack of exercise or muscular contraction especially for those who are recovering from an injury by retuing venous blood to the heart and at the same time eases the strain on this vital organ. Depending on the type of massage therapy given, some people may feel sleepy, stimulated or exhausted. Some forms of massage therapy are able to separate muscle fibers and undo or prevent the formation of adhesions. It also stretches the connective tissue which all helps reduce the danger of fibroids. Believe it or not, massage may burst the fat capsule in the subcutaneous tissue so that the fat exudes and becomes absorbed. Combined with proper nutrition and exercise, this can help the person lose weight. Massage therapy also increases the excretion of fluids via the kidney, nitrogen, inorganic phosphorous and salt in normal individuals. But for those who are injured, it does the exact opposite because these are needed for tissue repair. Studies have shown that massage therapy improves the general circulation and nutrition of joints and hastens the elimination of harmful particles in the synovial fluid. It helps lessen inflammation and swelling of the joints thereby alleviating pain. It also disperses the dema following injury to ligaments and tendons, lessening pain and facilitates movement. Massage therapy improves the general circulation and nutrition of tissues often accompanied by an increase interchange of substances between the blood and tissue cells thus heightening tissue metabolism. This type of therapy also empties the larger ducts and channels of the body thereby decreasing the auto intoxication resulting from re-absorption of toxic materials in these channels due to constipation or inflammation. There are so many benefits with regards to massage therapy which is why almost everyone needs it. If you haven't found a favorite yet, you can try one style this week and then another next week to how different they are from the other.

Giving yourself an Insulin Injection

Jun 28, 2009

You may be upset when you are diagnosed by gestational diabetes, but there are ways to treat and manage the disease. It is probably more realistic that you are more upset or nervous about giving yourself a daily injection (yes a needle) of insulin. Getting a needle is no big deal for most people, but giving one to yourself for the first time can be intimidating. The best advice is to just get it over with. After you have done it once it gets much easier. There are different places on your body that you give use to give yourself a needle (called injection sites). A fleshy part of your body is the best place such as the back of your arm, back of your leg, in your buttocks or the upper part of your abdomen. It is recommended to rotate your injection sites, if you prefer to give yourself a needle in the back of your arm it is okay to use that area every time. But you should not use the exact same spot on the back of your arm. You will be taught the proper method of drawing insulin into the syringe by your doctor or endocrinologist. It is important to take special care and attention to the amount of insulin that you are injecting. Too little and your blood sugar will be too high and too much you can suffer from hypoglycemia (a very low blood sugar). It is important to store your insulin in the refrigerator but once you prepare your syringe it is okay to have it out for some time before using it. You may even prefer this because when the insulin is cold it may sting more as you inject it. If it tus out that you really cannot give yourself a needle you will have to get your partner to do it for you.

The Melchizedek Method Reiki

Jun 27, 2009

The Melchizedek method reiki is one of the many types of reiki methods that have found to be widely practiced by people. This reiki method is considered by many practitioners to be one of the most advanced healing techniques available. It teaches a new form of emotional, spiritual, physical and mental healing. The history of the Melchizedek method started in 1997 as taught by Master Thoth. It was said that the knowledge of this method was handed down to man by the Catacean (whales and dolphins) within the temples of discovery during Atlantean times. The basis used in the techniques presented by the method is activating the Hologram of Love Merkaba rotating light field in trying to awaken one's spherical consciousness. Doing so raises one's quotient of light vibration right down within the human atomic cell structure. Once this light field is activated, the healing capabilities of the Melchizedek method practitioner are enhanced further. Not only that, the heart also awakens and opens more to unconditional love on your normal life. The Melchizedek method also teaches and encourages a person to take full responsibility for his or her own health, well-being and harmony with the environment as well as other people. Aside from that, the method of healing is also designed to be applied by a person upon another individual. The Melchizedek Method is known for teaching and demonstrating the skill of transporting any part of the body, outer bodies and thought programming into the higher dimensions in order for it to be cleansed and healed. Once that is done, the body is then retued into its completely perfect physical condition. Holographic healing and rejuvenation is a skill all human beings can practice in the future with the right knowledge. Believers of the method are confident that it will be instrumental in getting rid of illness and disease on the planet in the near future. One of the interesting aspects of the Melchizedek method is in the activation of the hologram of love, or Merkaba. The Merkaba is said to be the sacred geometric patte that gave birth to the whole universe. This patte is said to be based on unconditional love from which everything in the universe resonates. Humans are said to have this hologram of love patte from within. Awakening it serves the basis in the Melchizedek method. Meditating in a way that opens the Holographic Merkaba with light will bring forth the call upon a special frequency of 13:20:33 into that field of continuous time. The 13:20:33 frequency is also known as the frequency of no limitation. This frequency is also known to be present in different parts of the body harmonizing it to the whole universe. Having such a frequency allows humans to be in harmony with the creator of the universe. The tool utilized by the Hologram of Merkaba is a high dimensional active conscious living Divine expression that can gain entry to all levels of consciousness. This tool has the ability to heal and rejuvenate any form of created being as it is the living conscious holographic patte of the God Source vibration. The Melchizedek Method reiki helps establish a constant flow of love energy from a person's heart to that of the source of God as well as to the heart centre of the Earth. Linking this different aspects way allows a person to draw on the spiritual energies of God source and Earth together to reveal a high frequency love healing energy that can effectively uplift the human body into a state of receptivity for healing and rejuvenation. The ability of accessing original thought form and emotion can be made possible while in this state, completing a powerful experience that can be quite spiritually, emotionally and physically fulfilling.

Diabetes and the pH miracle diet

Jun 26, 2009

Diabetes is the third leading cause of death in the United States. Even more chilling, it is the first leading cause of death for children. The rising rates of obesity in this country have also led to rising rates of type II diabetes (also called adult onset diabetes). Today, one in 12 adults are afflicted with the disease. This means that over 16 million people have the disorder, with 6 million of them walking around undiagnosed and unaware of their sensitive insulin condition. Type II diabetes is created by increased aging, obesity, poor nutrition, high stress and physical inactivity. All of these conditions can be traced back to one source…high acidity. Over-acid lifestyles and food choices have negative impacts on health, which is shown by the rapidly increasing diabetes rates in the country. Diabetes is an old disorder. It has been known about for thousands of years and yet it is only today that it has become an epidemic. Part of the problem is that the nature of diabetes is a mystery, even to educated adults. People do not understand what insulin does in the body and how the insulin metabolism affects the health. Even current medical science has some misconceptions about the true nature of the disorder. For example, many in the medical establishment believe that obesity is the cause of diabetes. However, obesity is a result of increased consumption of complex carbohydrates and simple sugars. The high rate of consumption of these products (which are made from the acidifying foods of sugar and processed wheat) leads to high acidity in the body. The body attempts to deal with the increase of waste acids by using fat to neutralize the acid. The fat is then stored as a safeguard for the cells in the body. There is also a belief that insulin is needed to regulate blood sugar levels in the bodies. The term "insulin dependent" was created in the 1950s to create the impression that muscle and fat require insulin to take up glucose (the sugars created by eating high carbohydrate and sugary foods). However, current studies show that many different things in the body transport glucose. Cells require glucose for their cell respiration process. The body makes sure that the cells receive that, no matter how much insulin in present. Insulin resistance, which is a precursor to type II diabetes, is brought on through a highly acidic lifestyle and acidic food choices. It occurs in the liver, muscles and fat cells. Excess caffeine, chocolate, sugar and carbohydrates stimulate these bodily organs and tissues. As the body is stimulated, the cells begin to release their glucose and this leads to the elevated levels of blood sugar that people see when they do blood sugar testing. The body cells are disorganized and the highly acidic state can lead to a host of problems overtime including premature aging, high blood pressure, inhibition of the release of glycogen from the liver, and the inhibition of the buing of fat. Over stimulation of the bodily tissues through acidic foods can cause a lot of damage, and type II diabetes is just a symptom of an acidic lifestyle. In order to bring the body back into balance, you must include alkalizing green vegetables, green drinks and good fats in your diet. Plant proteins from grains and legumes also help restore the body's previous homeostasis. The pH miracle diet includes a balanced plan for eating with your body, instead of against it. With the application of the principles of the diet, controlling and preventing diabetes is a simple matter of alkalized eating and living. PPPPP (word count 600)

Losing Weight Rapidly

Wanting a slimmer and sexier body is no lofty ambition. Many people have succeeded in sculpting their physiques to make them look healthy and desirable. However, this end is not attained in just a snap or skipping one night's dinner. For some people though, patience is not a virtue. They seem not to be able to afford so much attention, time and money to get the body they have always wanted. As a result, these people result to rapid weight loss practices and programs which may not be as effective as these people are led to believe they are. Fast-track diets are one of these rapid weight loss practices which may not be very inviting as they seem according to research. Fast-track diet programs, as scientific research shows, are only good while they last. Rapid weight loss often results ironically, to rapid weight gain. people who undergo low carbohydrate or low calorie diets normally revert back to old eating habits simply because human beings can not actually live on with this type of diet scheme for the rest of their lives. Now there is also scientific research showing that rapid weight loss does not imply an individual is losing unwanted excess fat; it is commonly water that is lost with following rapid weight loss practices. This could cause certain alarm but actually, water lost is regained very quickly. So there is actually zero net weight lost after all. So one should not be foolish enough to be so gullible with the advertising of certain diet pills out there in the market; especially those which claim to aid lose a whopping amount of fat in a short time. They will only dehydrate the body. And just so it is clear, the body can only lose two pounds of fat per week, one could be exceptionally lucky if he can lose three, but normally, it's just two. Another rapid weight loss product out in the market is the slimming soap. Claiming that these soaps are made from a unique concoction of rare chinese herbs and seaweed, they assert to help people using them to shed off body fats by emulsifying them upon application while taking a bath. Some are even specialized like those which promise to give the user "beautiful thighs". The ingredients may prove to improve the quality of the skin but no research has ever come up yet which aids to prove the efficacy of these ingredients in emulsifying excess body fats. One more rapid weight loss product out there in the market promises to suppress hunger and at the same time help increase the body's metabolic rate. It also claims to be able to accelerate the healing process and reduce certain body pains, all these plus its being a very chic fashion accent. Well they are actually called magnetic weight loss earrings. The secret of this set of earrings is in the magnet, so it says. Wearing them near the ears balances the magnetism in the body therefore one will experience all the above mentioned effects. Though press releases say that there are actually "studies" to back these assertions up, nothing yet is found in medical jouals. Though buying a set may not kill a person, it's probably not a wise investment. One might as well wear a horse shoe earring for a more exquisite fashion statement. Bottom line is "no pain, no gain". If one wants a beautiful body, one must sweat it out. And as for those rapid weight loss products coming out on the market, if they are too good to be true, they probably are not.

pH miracle diet and weight loss

Jun 25, 2009

One of the biggest benefits of the pH miracle diet is weight loss. Many people have tued to this diet to lose weight as well as to improve their overall level of health The pH miracle diet is very efficient at removing extra weight. Obesity is a nationwide epidemic. According to recent studies, over 59 million adults over the age of 20 are obese (30 or more pounds overweight). One in three Americans have a some degree of being overweight that puts them at medical risk for many different conditions, including heart disease, heart attack, diabetes and hypertension. Even more startling is the number of children that qualify as overweight and obese. In the early 1990s the National Center for Health Statistics found that 15 percent of children between 6 and 19 were overweight, which was twice as much as the results found in the early 1980s. The numbers have grown even more significant. Today, 9 million children are at least 15 pounds overweight with many millions qualifying as obese. What is to blame for these alarming obesity rates? The environment of highly acidic foods and high levels of stress have made for a disastrous combination. The more acidic a body becomes, the more fat the body will store. Overweight conditions result from too much acid in the body. Eliminating acid from the diet with the pH miracle diet will help you lose weight. The accumulation of fat is actually the body's attempt to deal with the high levels of acid waste. Many people think that fat is bad and that fat is the enemy that needs to be attacked. Fat is just a symptom of a larger problem – acidity. You may be surprised to find out that your fat is saving your life. Fat is actually protecting your body from rising levels of acidity. When you eat massive amounts of sugar, starches, red meat, dairy products and other acidic foods, your body uses fat to bind to the acid to protect your cells. The acidic cycle in your body functions in the following way. When you eat foods that produce acid when they are digested, this acid builds up in your body. When the acid is not eliminated in a timely fashion, it can disturb other cells and get in the way of their functioning. Pretty soon, many cells in the body are being negatively affected by the presence of acid. However, the body has a line of defense in the form of fat. Dietary and body fat are both used to neutralize the acid. The acid bound fat is either eliminated or stored, depending on how much there is. The body can only rid itself of so much acid bound fat, so when you eat a lot of acidic foods you will store a lot of fat. So people who are overweight and obese are actually showing signs of being too acid. Their diets are too much for their body to handle, so body fat is being used as a line of defense. Fat is a symptom, not the main problem. Many people begin to think that eliminating fat from their diets is the key. However if they are still eating acidic foods they are actually robbing their bodies of the ability to protect themselves. Low-carbohydrate and high protein diets have high levels of fat, but the people on these diets need that fat because their diet is highly acidic (animal protein has acidifying effects). The dietary solution for weight loss is to follow a program that is high in alkaline foods. The pH miracle diet balances out the acidity that you have been developing in your body and will restore you to your ideal weight. PPPPP (word count 618)

Natural Remedies for Losing Weight - Guar Gum

Jun 24, 2009

So many people these days want a magic bullet to lose weight, actually fervently pray for such a thing. Unfortunately, there really is NO magic bullet for weight loss, other than good old hard work to make it happen. No matter what else you choose to do, you still need to change your eating habits, and increase your exercise. Why are these natural remedies for losing weight so popular? There are numerous reasons why the natural weight loss industry does a booming business every year. Over weight and obese people want something they can lose weight with immediately. It's easier that doing the grunt work. They have decided they don't want to be fat any longer and want instant results. They may have tried other weight loss avenues and given up. Herbal remedies are easy to obtain without a prescription. They appeal to people because of the outrageous claims made about weight loss. People think natural can't hurt you and that natural means safe - and it doesn't. Hundreds of weight loss products have soluble fiber in them, meaning in theory, the fiber will absorb water in your gut, decreasing your appetite, making you feel full and not eat as much. Guar gum (from the cluster bean Cyamopsis tetragonolobus) is one of these fibers used as a natural remedy for losing weight. The guar seeds are dehusked, milled and screened to obtain the guar gum. Normally, you would find this thickening agent in foods, dairy products, sauces and ice cream. Used in food it is quite easy for the body to assimilate it. Used in diet concotions, that is another kettle of fish. Since it is capable of sweeling up to 10 to 20 times in the stomach when taken with fluids, it is supposed to make you feel full, cut your appetite, making you eat less, and thus losing weight. Unfortunately, there have been many instances of esophageal blockages with this product. Like Glocomannan, Guar gum has also led to gastrointestinal obstructions. Research indicates that this product was banned in the US in over-the-counter natural remedies for losing weight in the late 1980s. In addition, Guar gum was also proved ineffective in losing weight. However, with the exploding weight loss market, always be sure to read labels before you buy something. You will find that many things are called by other names and if you do not know what they are, you could buy something that will either by a waste of your money, or cause you more problems than you ever wanted.

Finding the Beauty Within While Dieting

Jun 23, 2009

There seems to be one universal truth when it comes to dieting. No one really enjoys the process though we all eagerly await and anticipate the results. The problem is that far too many men and women around the world focus so much on dieting and perfecting their exteal beauty that they forget the beautiful people they are inside along the way. Our culture is becoming obsessive about the perfect body and the perfect body image. If there was one message that should make it out to everyone dieing it is this: dieting should be more about health than beauty. You should not need to conform to some preconceived notion of what is or should be beautiful. If we create a world where everyone looks alike it would be rather boring in the end. You need to focus on being happy with who you are in order to achieve the greatest dieting success you will have ever dared dream. Many of use eat out of emotional need or a simple need for comfort when we are depressed, hurting, uncertain, or simply in unfamiliar territory. There is no solution that will work for everyone when it comes to making peace with who you are and this by no means indicates that you should no longer seek to be the healthiest you there is. It simply means that your focus should be more on coming to terms with who you are as a person than in creating a new person or imagine behind which you can hide. Dieting for the most part is an opportunity for many men and women to become someone else. Whether that someone is the person you used to be or some person you think you want to be, you are quite unlikely find happiness at any weight until you accept you for the person you are inside. This is often a difficult process but one that is well worth the effort. Once you've accepted the person inside you can address the specific needs that often lead to the excess weight to begin with. Depression is a common factor in weight gain as well as an inability to lose weight. By finding contentment depression will no longer a controlling factor in you life. For many, this is the freedom they need from their weight problems while others will find there are still hurdles remaining. The important thing is that you stop allowing the person you are to be defined by what the scales say about you. Once you've reached a point in your life where you are happy with your appearance and feel that your personal fitness level is in hand you should discuss things with your doctor and see what he or she has to say. We do not need a nation of size 5 women. We need a nation of women who are self-aware and self confident and not afraid to be who they are on the inside regardless of how they look on the outside. Finding the beauty within is often the most important aspect of dieting that there can be. Take the time while dieting to get to know the person you are and introduce that person to the person you want to be. In time the two will work out a healthy compromise and you will find that image isn't really everything no matter what the glossy magazines try to tell you. PPPPP 575

Natural Remedies for Toothaches

As hard as we all try to take good care of our teeth, almost everyone experiences a toothache at least once in their life, some more than others. Unfortunately, most toothaches are just severe enough that they can hinder a person's ability to continue on with their daily tasks. Of course, a dentist should be seen if severe pain is present for more than one week, but many are surprised with the relief they receive from natural remedies. Natural remedies are a great way for the uninsured to seek relief, as well as a great way to treat the pain until a dentist can be seen. One natural remedy that works great for toothaches is that of onion consumption. There are a number of medical studies that proved that onions have bacterial benefits. For that reason, individuals suffering from a toothache should put a small onion piece on the tooth that is causing them pain. Relief can typically be seen in a manner of minutes. Also, due to the benefits of onions, those who eat a couple of raw onion pieces everyday can protect their teeth. This is because a raw onion can help to kill common germs and bacteria in the mouth that can cause dental complications, such as a cavity. Another natural remedy and home remedies that is ideal for treating a toothache involves the consumption of garlic. A clove of garlic can be placed on the tooth that is producing the pain. Within a matter of minutes relief will be felt. This relief may even be permanent or it will last the longest, when compared to many other natural and home remedies for toothaches. In addition to garlic, a clove can be placed on the affected tooth. This will not only provide pain relief, but clove is also known to limit the chances of an infection. Pepper is considered a natural remedy and a home remedy that can help with a toothache that results from a cavity. When using this approach, a pinch of pepper should be placed on a tooth cavity. Many others also recommend adding in about a quarter of a teaspoon of salt to create a salt and pepper combination. As previously stated, this can help to provide relief from a toothache associated with a cavity, but there are other dental benefits associated with this remedy as well. A small mixture of pepper and salt can also provide relief from bad breath and gum problems, such as soft or infected gums. In addition to using the above mentioned home remedies and natural remedies for toothaches, preventative steps should also be taken. This involves seeking regular dental care. A dental checkup is advised at least once a year; however, twice a year is better for those with known dental problems. Another preventative step that can be taken involves limiting the consumption of sugary foods and drinks, such as candy and soft drinks. These food and drinks can increase the chances of a cavity developing. If these sugary food and drinks are consumed, a quick brushing is advised. Speaking of food and drinks, those that are high in vitamin C and calcium are known to prevent many dental complications, including loose teeth, cavities, and gum disease. Lime is recommended for the healthy maintenance of teeth; however, dairy products, which are high in calcium should also be consumed on a regular basis. If you are a parent, it is advised that you provide your children with a constant source of these calcium and vitamin C rich foods, to limit the dental problems they may have in the future. As outlined above, a number of natural remedies and home remedies can provide relief with a toothache. With that being said, it is also important to remember that preventative care is advised. Also, although the above mentioned natural remedies will provide most relief from many common dental problems, a visit to a dentist is recommend for those suffering from severe, long-lasting pain. Alternative Therapies-Part 2

Jun 22, 2009

Biofeedback: Leaing to control muscle tension and "involuntary" body functioning, such as heart rate and skin temperature, can be a path to mastering one's fears. It is used in combination with, or as an alteative to, medication to treat disorders such as anxiety, panic, and phobias. For example, a person can lea to "retrain" his or her breathing habits in stressful situations to induce relaxation and decrease hyperventilation. Some preliminary research indicates it may offer an additional tool for treating schizophrenia and depression. Guided Imagery or Visualization: This process involves going into a state of deep relaxation and creating a mental image of recovery and wellness. Physicians, nurses, and mental health providers occasionally use this approach to treat alcohol and drug addictions, depression, panic disorders, phobias, and stress. Massage therapy: The underlying principle of this approach is that rubbing, kneading, brushing, and tapping a person's muscles can help release tension and pent emotions. It has been used to treat trauma-related depression and stress. A highly unregulated industry, certification for massage therapy varies widely from State to State. Some States have strict guidelines, while others have none. Telemedicine: Plugging into video and computer technology is a relatively new innovation in health care. It allows both consumers and providers in remote or rural areas to gain access to mental health or specialty expertise. Telemedicine can enable consulting providers to speak to and observe patients directly. It also can be used in education and training programs for generalist clinicians. Telephone counseling: Active listening skills are a hallmark of telephone counselors. Electronic communications: Technologies such as the Inteet, bulletin boards, and electronic mail lists provide access directly to consumers and the public on a wide range of information. On-line consumer groups can exchange information, experiences, and views on mental health, treatment systems, alteative medicine, and other related topics. .

Atkins and Unprocessed Foods

Jun 21, 2009

When you first start on the Atkins program, you may be tempted to take advantage of many of the low carbohydrate products on the market today. There are a wide variety of packaged items that are specifically manufactured to be low-carb. These include low-carb snacks, low-carb baking products and low-carb substitutes (like pasta or bread). While it may be enticing to fill your shopping cart with all of these goodies, it's best for your diet and for your health to use them sparingly. One of the key things to remember about the Atkins diet is its focus on raw, unprocessed foods. The center of diet, as shown by the Atkins diet food pyramid, is fresh vegetables and fresh meats. Added into the mix are natural cheeses, a selection of fruits and, eventually, whole unprocessed grains. There aren't any packaged meats, canned vegetables or instant anything. There is a reason that the Atkins food pyramid shows these foods in their raw states. There are great health benefits in minimally processed foods. Raw, whole foods retain more vitamins and nutrients than foods that have been through chemical and industrial processing. Manufactured foods are more likely to be tainted with chemical additives that can cause a whole host of problems. Raw, fresh food ingredients provide the best basis for a healthy diet. Many dieters rely on foods that are technically allowed on the plan, but not good for health. One example is bacon. Many people on the Atkins diet consume lots of bacon. In fact, many use it as a daily part of their protein foods. However, bacon contains high amounts of sodium nitrite, an ingredient that is known to cause cancer. The more bacon they eat, the more they expose themselves to this chemical and many others. The Atkins pyramid, and the Atkins diet books, recommends unprocessed, unrefined and non-manufactured foods for a reason. If people follow these recommendations, they will lose weight and experience health transformations. By eating fresh and natural foods you'll be providing your body with the nutrients that you need to have optimum health. Back to those packaged and processed low-carb foods. Technically, they are part of the low-carb program. They can be used in moderation as substitutes for your favorite carbohydrate heavy foods. In a pinch, low-carb bread and baked goods can help you get over cravings and add variety to your Atkins diet plan. However, one look at the labels of these products shows how chemically processed these items can be. It is recommended that you use these products sparingly. In some individuals, low-carb packaged items cause carbohydrate cravings. This can make staying on the diet even more difficult. If you find that low-carb processed foods make you want to binge on carb-heavy foods, then its best that you stay away from these products. These products may also have hidden carb counts that will increase your daily carbohydrate level without you realizing it. If you are experiencing a stall in your weight loss on the Atkins plan, re-evaluate your commitment to unprocessed and unrefined foods. If you've been eating too many low-carb processed foods, you may be consuming hidden carbs and eating more than necessary. Try eliminating these products and refocusing your diet on unprocessed and unrefined foods, like those seen on the Atkins diet pyramid. When you go grocery shopping, spend time along the outer rim of the store where the fresh, unprocessed foods are. This will help you avoid the temptation of packaged foods that can lead your diet astray. You may need to rely on packaged meats, vegetables and fruits from time to time. We lead busy lives and convenience foods are part of life. It's understandable that you may need to use some canned soup, bacon or canned vegetables in your daily life. However, make an effort to concentrate your dietary efforts on a wide variety of fresh, unprocessed foods. Your health and weight loss efforts will be greatly rewarded. PPPPP (word count 658)

Lunch Ideas for Women with Gestational Diabetes

A sandwich can be a diabetic's best meal choice. It combines many of the food groups in one easy to prepare meal. Choosing whole wheat bread over white and including a protein increases the nutritious value of the sandwich. But you don't have to be pinned down to eating a sandwich every day for lunch for months on end (unless of course you want to). Good sandwich choices for diabetics include tuna fish, egg salad, deli meat, and cheese. The addition of vegetables is a good idea and recommended. Be careful with the condiments you add to your sandwich though. Check the labels to get an idea of the sugar content as a guideline mustard is better than mayonnaise and whenever possible go for a lighter or fat free version of your favorite spreads. If you are looking for ideas that go beyond the four coers of a sandwich try out one of these lunch ideas: * Instead of making a sandwich with bread try using a tortilla wrap or whole wheat pita pocket * A variety of soups whether home made or store bought can be hearty and filling. Eat with some cheese slices and crackers for a filling meal * Pasta salad with chicken, ham, or cheese mixed in * Chef's salad with egg and a meat choice. Be aware of how much sugar is in a serving of your salad dressing. A vinaigrette or balsamic vinegar are better choices * A small portion of what you had for dinner the night before The eating habits you will develop and the food choices that you make when you have gestational diabetes are ones that you would be smart to continue with once the baby is bo. Eating like a diabetic is very healthy if you follow the rules and the food guide for portion sizes.

No More Sitting On The Floor Thanks To Meditation Chairs

Jun 20, 2009

One of the most challenging things when meditating is finding the right sitting position. This is because your legs could become numb after some time which is why even if there is already meditation cushion in the market, there are some who still prefer to use meditation chairs instead. When you look at a meditation chair, the first thing you will notice is that this does not look that different to a dining chair. It has 4 legs and a back rest. However, what it does best is make you more comfortable than when you are sitting on the floor by being able to mold to your body which prevents cramps and provides complete relaxation. The material that makes this possible is called buckwheat hull because it conforms to your shape thus providing a firmer seat. It is also able to do this because of the ergonomic design which prevents the user from slouching during the most intense moments of meditation as it is angled slightly forward. A good example of a meditating chair is the Seagrass. This was designed by a meditation practitioner who felt that it is very difficult to meditate while sitting in a lotus position. This chair allows you to cross the ankles or the feet or pull them up if you are tired of having them rest on the floor. It also provides proper spine support so you will never experience any back pain after the session. The Chinese meditation chair is perhaps the oldest since it has been around for centuries. It didn't have ergonomic features like the ones we have now but it has a very wide base so that the user has sufficient room to also cross their legs. It also did not have any cushioning but you can easily fix that. Another example is the Tilt Seat that is also known as the kneeling chair. The beauty of this meditation chair is that it does not put any pressure on the knees and this can also be used as a study table because you can easily read a book when you put a cushion on the floor. There are other meditation chairs available and they come in other shapes and sizes. One option for those that want something bigger is the meditation bench. Because of the larger area, those of you who still prefer the lotus position can do so without putting pressure on the legs. Something similar to that is called the cane chair for meditation. When choosing the right seat, you should always consider your height, size and comfort level. Don't forget support for the back so this also helps improve your posture. The nice thing about meditation chairs is that they are light and portable. It can easily be stored in the closet when you are done and the designs that most retailers have can easily compliment with the rest of the items in the room. The meditation chair is designed to make you feel comfortable in the 15 or 20 minutes when you are in session. How you make your mind and body relax is already up to you so if you are serious about improving your health or combating stress, then investing in one of these will surely be good for you.

Eat Small Meals throughout the Day

Jun 19, 2009

Eating and pregnancy go hand in hand. Even though it doesn't seem fair to be pregnant and not get to eat what and when you want it is healthier for you and your baby. The old adage of eating for two is true but many women overeat when they are pregnant and gain more weight than they should. The more food that you eat in one sitting the harder it is going to be for your body to produce enough insulin to tu the sugar into energy. Not only is what you eat important so is the portion sizes. Your doctor or dietician will provide you with a meal plan and it is wise to follow it as closely as possible. Since you will be eating smaller meals, you are going to need to eat more frequently to keep your energy up. The best way to do this is plan on eating six smaller meals throughout the day. You will keep a steady stream of nourishment going into your body and if you eat at the same time each day it will make it easier for your body to regulate insulin production and use. A schedule that works for many women is to eat a small breakfast and then continue to eat approximately every two to three hours. This will include a mid-moing snack, lunch, an afteoon snack, dinner, and a bedtime snack. If you are still finding you are hungry in between meals or are finding ketones when you test your urine, consult with your doctor or dietician. They are sure to have suggestions to help you make changes that will work better for you. Such as eating more protein at meals or filling up on more vegetables (something that can be eaten as a free food at any time).

pH miracle diet creator Robert Young

The pH diet is an innovative way to interact with food. The diet stresses the need for balance in the diet of alkaline and acid. This balance will help maintain a healthy flow through the bloodstream and keep cellular growth and development working at optimum levels. By lowering destructive acid levels with more alkaline a host of benefits can result, namely sustainable energy and good health. By following a simple regimen of balanced eating along with testing saliva for pH levels, one can achieve better health. The primary proponent of this alkaline diet is a man by the name of Dr. Robert Young. Dr. Young heralds that a diet that is made up of 80% alkaline producing foods and 20% acid producing foods will allow people to achieve their healthier bodies and healthier lives. Through his research Dr. Young has surmised that the optimum pH level of the human body is 7.35. The pH spectrum is from 1 to 14 with 1 being highly acid and 14 being highly alkaline. With the body leaning toward moderately alkaline he contends that people can supplement their diets with more alkaline. Dr. Robert Young stresses that a body that is ravaged by excess acid will be more prone to serious health problems. Dr. Robert Young began is studies in the early 70s at the University of Utah, where he studied biology and business. He eaed as MS in nutrition, a DSc in science, a PhD in nutrition, and a ND from Clayton College of Natural Health during the 90s. Critics of Dr. Young question the validity of the school in which he received his degrees. The impact of his teachings is undeniable, he has helped many people obtain better health through a regimen of increased fruits and vegetables and more water consumption. He also stresses avoiding caffeine and alcoholic beverages to maintain vitality. He is also a staunch supporter of pleomorphism, the belief in the ability of bacteria to morph shape dramatically or to mutate into many morphological forms. This idea has firmly split the microbiologist community into two schools of thought, the pleomorphists who support the claims; and the monomorphists who vehemently dispute them. In the current scientific community the monomorphic perspective of microbiology has emerged as the dominant theory. Mode medical science supports the monomorphic theory of cell development in which cells derive from previously formed cells of the same size and shape. Dr. Young holds retreats where he educates the patrons on the Alkali Diet as well as a live red blood cell examination in an in-depth microscopy seminar. According to the National Council Against Health Fraud (http://www.ncahf.org/digest05/05-14.html#young) Dr. Robert Young pleaded guilty in 1996 to a misdemeanor charge of attempted medicine without a license. He was promised that the charge would be dismissed if he stayed clear for 18 months. Young allegedly had examined blood samples from two women who were seeking nutritional advice. Critics of his live red blood cell examination conclude that his test have no scientific validity. Dr. Young counters his critics citing many papers and sources validating his claims including Understanding Acid-Base by Benjamin Abeloh, M.D., a lecturer of medicine at Yale school of Medicine and Clinical Physiology of Acid-Base by Burton David Rose, M.D., a Clinical Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. According to his website (http://www.phmiracleliving.com/press-kit.htm), Dr. Young is a member of the American Society of Microbiologists, the American Naturopathic Association, and an honorary member of the Connecticut Holistic Health Assocations, the Presidents Council at Brigham Young University. He is also a consultant for InnerLight, Inc. and an advisor to Dean Lawrence Carter at the Martin Luther King Chapel, Morehouse College. He was also honored by Professor Lawrence Carter at Morehouse College with an induction into the collegium of scholars as well as placed on the advisory board. He has been praised by Professor Carter for his efforts in understanding the balance of body chemistry and the effects of this balance on health. PPPPP (word count 661)

Learning About Maori Reiki

Jun 18, 2009

Maori Reiki is one of the many forms of the popular Reiki system of spiritual healing. And just like the original Reiki system, it is considered to be as a part of alteative medicine. There are many types of Reiki spiritual healing now available. Most of the prominent ones include Dragon Reiki, Gendai Reiki, Brahma Satya Reiki and the Shamanic Reiki. Maori Reiki is just one of these many forms. The different forms of Reiki spiritual healing were usually developed in the place where they originated from. Geography alone plays a big part in the development of these different forms of Reiki. As for the Maori Reiki, it was developed from a unique tribe found in New Zealand called the Maoris. The Maori people are considered as a very spiritual tribe with many of their beliefs based on the spiritual aspect of life. The Maori tribe has developed their own way of spiritual healing through their years of existence. The unique spiritual healing practice has been handed down from generation to generation. The tradition has been carried on by some of the descendants of the Maori tribe even today. Although the Maori Reiki form of spiritual healing may be similar in some ways with the other Reiki systems, it also has its own distinction over them. The Maori Reiki form of spiritual healing is based a lot on trying to cleanse the body of any spiritual and physical toxic waste. Healing of the body is achieved through getting rid of the spiritual and physical wastes accumulated through the many years. The main aim of Maori Reiki masters is to cleanse both the body and soul. An excess of waste in the body can slow down and make people feel physically drained and fatigued, thereby affecting daily life. The same thing happens if a person is carrying a lot of spiritual toxic waste. This type of waste can lead to multitude of negative feelings in a person. Maori Reiki can help people get rid of these physical and spiritual toxins as well as the negative energy that they create. By releasing these toxins, only then can people begin to feel both physically and spiritually whole and balanced once again. Another difference that Maori Reiki may have on other Reiki systems is that it employs the use of natural objects that help the Maori Reiki master to heal people physically and spiritually. The natural objects particularly used include certain types of wood that carry with them some spiritual properties. Gemstones, crystals and natural stones are also some of the natural objects that Maori Reiki masters use to heal the spirit and the body. The use of herbs and other natural remedies that also carry spiritual and healing properties is also employed to further aid the Maori Reiki master. In a typical Maori Reiki session, it is essential that a person needs to get in touch with more nature. This is the initial belief since the past generations of the Maori tribe were very naturalistic and holistic in their approach to healing. By using the tools that nature has provided for them, Maori Reiki masters can use the energy that these objects impart to aid healing people from the inside out. People can experience the unique Maori Reiki spiritual healing treatments if they are dealing with a multitude of physical and emotional stress. Substance abuse or drug addiction may also be alteatively treated using the Maori Reiki system.

Bipolar Depression Versus Clinical Depression

An estimated ten percent of all Americans suffer from some form of depression during their lives. This figure varies but is pretty much the same worldwide. There are a few areas of the world that depression seems to have missed, but not many. Depression in general affects the way we behave from our sleeping pattes up to the way we think and live life. The difference between depression and bipolar depression is in the severity and frequency. Depression alone is often brought about by life circumstances, while bipolar depression is chemically- induced and the flip side of mania. The depression and mania come in cycles, regardless of the circumstances in a person's life. While those suffering clinical depression are at risk of using drugs or alcohol to alleviate their symptoms, the risk is greater in those with bipolar depression. A person who knows the highs of mania may try to recreate the feeling when they are depressed or "stable". Drugs often help create that high for a short time. This puts the person at risk of adding drug addiction to the bipolar disorder. Treatment of the two types of depression also varies. Those suffering from clinical depression are prescribed anti-depressants alone. Those with bipolar depression, however, are often given a mood stabilizer first, and an antidepressant as a second choice if needed. Both medications adjust the brain chemicals to alleviate the depression, but the mood stabilizer also helps the person keep from going too far in the other direction and becoming manic. To the person suffering depression, it feels the same regardless of what causes the mood. The important part knowing the difference plays is mainly in treatment options. A person suffering bipolar depression is at risk of becoming manic if only the depression is treated. This in itself creates additional problems. .

Preventable death and the pH miracle diet

Jun 17, 2009

The Center of Disease Control and Prevention evaluates several health factors when it compiles its list of preventable causes of death. Among the expected conditions on the list were death from tobacco, death from alcohol consumption and death from drugs. However, surprisingly, poor diet and lack of physical activity is actually the number 2 cause of preventable death in the U.S. It is poised to take over the number 1 spot from tobacco in the coming years. Poor diet and lack of exercise currently count for 16.6% of total deaths, or 400,000 deaths in the United States each year. Yet the last twenty to thirty years have been marked with an increased interest in dieting and exercise. Most adults, especially women, claim they are on diets at least once a year. Despite this commitment, the nation is continuing to get fatter. Obesity rates are at an all time high, and childhood obesity is on the rise for the first time ever. If many people are on diets, but the vast majority of the population is still overweight and unhealthy, the problem lies with the diets that people are trying. The pH miracle diet addresses the missing ingredient in today's diet that is causing people to gain weight even when they think they are eating healthfully. Conventional diets disregard the body's natural pH. They encourage eating a variety of foods that are acidic to the body. Low-fat diets fail because they often substitute sugar for fat. They also allow processed grain products, dairy products and acidifying vegetables. Low-carbohydrate diets fail because they emphasize meat and other dairy proteins, which knock the body's natural pH off balance. Dr. Robert Young, the creator of the pH miracle diet, explains that the best diet will address the pH factor. The body has a pH of 7.4, which is slightly alkaline. Eating alkaline foods and taking steps to reduce stress will help bring the body back into balance. Many of the conditions that people suffer from are a result from too much acidic waste in the body. This acidic waste builds up when you eat acid-producing foods, experience a lot of stress and ignore your body's need for exercise. Alkalizing the body with the pH miracle diet will bring your bodily pH back to normal and will give you relief from a variety of symptoms. However, you cannot alkalize your body if you continue to drink or eat high sugar drinks and fruits. Drinking alcohol will also disrupt the pH of your system, as will drinking coffee, soda and teas. The best beverage to drink for alkalizing is ionized water. Starchy foods like potatoes, pasta and breads all break down to sugar, and then produce acid waste that collects in the body. Eating any of the animal proteins (chicken, beef, pork, lamb etc) will create excess acid waste in your body as well. Dairy products have concentrated sugars that break down into lactic acid, which creates acidic waste. Non-food related behaviors also increase the level of acidity in the body. If you don't exercise regularly you are allow acids to build up in your tissues. These acids increase your fat production and cause lethargy. The solution for the acidic waste and the cure for the second most prevalent preventable disease both lay in some simple steps. Eat whole, natural unprocessed foods as the basis for your diet. You should emphasize alkalizing green foods, which have the vitamins, minerals and nutrients your body needs to restore balance. Drinking pH alkaline water will help, as will daily exercise. You need to get out there and get moving in order to release the excess acid from your body. PPPPP (word count 610)

Message From The Heavens: Celestial Reiki

Let's break the concept down into simpler explanations. If you don't know what reiki is, in a nutshell, it is a technique or a spiritual practice that is used to heal. In simpler terms the practice help reduce stress and induce deep relaxation, among other benefits. The technique was developed by Japanese Mikao Usui and was primarily intended as a form of therapy that could be used in tandem with conventional techniques for treating physical, emotional and mental illnesses. It is a healing technique. The concept of celestial reiki is the same. But instead of having a spiritual experience limited here on Earth, one who practices celestial reiki takes into account the other planets of the solar system as well as stars and constellations, particularly the star constellations of the 12 signs of the zodiac. According to the teachings of reiki, there's an energy that can be channeled to help heal diseases. This energy is universal and flows within us as our "life force". This life force energy dictates our feelings and dispositions. The more active the energy flows through us, the healthier and happier we become. With celestial reiki, the "life force" that is used to heal in ordinary reiki is taken further. The earth's core "life force" energy is used to heal the mind, body and soul. And since all planets and star systems emit a particular "life force" signature, celestial reiki practitioners haess that energy and use the energy from the celestial bodies to heal the human body. Reiki treatment involves the whole body. This includes the body's physical state and its emotional, intellectual and, of course, the spiritual well being. When you look at it, reiki is a simple self-improvement technique. And since the "life force" energy it teaches is said to be present in all things, anybody can use this energy to heal and promote recovery. It's not limited to individual energy, but encompasses the universe. This is why the "life force" energy in reiki is infinite. And regardless of how many times or how many people use it, the "life force" energy can always be utilized to heal. However, reiki is not taught but rather the ability is transferred by a Reiki master to his student during the stage of what they call "attunement." At this level, the Reiki master passes the ability of reiki to a student allowing hem to tap to the "life force" energy which will give him the ability to heal wounds and illnesses and generally improve one's quality of life. One need to emphasize, however, that reiki is not a religion. Instead, those who practices reiki get more intimate with their own religion, understanding and enriching their own religious beliefs. A reiki practitioner has to promote the way of good living in order to master the flow of the "life force" and promote harmony and peace for true healing to happen. Going back to celestial reiki, what we currently know about the solar system and stars is given a new light by practicing this form of reiki. Understand that the universe's "life force" energy can be channeled it into one's hands to heal not only on the individual level but eventually heal the whole planet as well. And by connecting with each planet and star system, reiki practitioners are able to accomplish such feat.

Useful Meditation Instructions At Home

Jun 16, 2009

Different meditation techniques follow their own set of meditation instructions in order to be effective and lead a person to a higher level of relaxation and consciousness. These guidelines are there to help provide the steps that an individual can follow as he or she begins a meditation session. Duration may differ according to the different techniques and may involve different exercises to achieve that higher level of awareness. Any meditation practice may be done at different parts of the day. But it is suggested that you do it in the moing. Moing is the ideal time to do a meditation session since it is the time of the day with the least interruptions. It is also good to find a place somewhere in the home that is quiet and private. Here is an example of how you can do your meditation in your own home. First of all, try to sit upright, keeping your spine relatively straight. You can either sit on a bed, on the floor, or in a chair, whichever is most comfortable for you to sit on. You can cross your legs as you sit down, which is the usual position for meditation. But if crossing your legs will result in discomfort or stoppage of blood flow in the legs, try to uncross and extend them. You may also try to alter to a more comfortable sitting position. Meditation can also depend on how comfortable you are to be effective. After finding yourself in a comfortable sitting position, the next step is to close the eyes and relax. Do this for a brief moment to calm your body and mind. The next step is to try and visualize a certain object. Visualization is one of the important steps in meditation. Try to focus on the object in your mind and try to be aware of its characteristics. Focusing and concentrating on something in your mind may take time and it will take a lot of practice. This is important since meditation depends on putting your focus on just a single object in your mind while minimizing the distractions as much as possible. Now that you have visualized a specific object in your mind, try to feel yourself as if you are that object. Try to get a sense of how it is being that object. Feel how it is to be that shape, that color or that texture. Become the object in your mind. In doing so, try to feel calm and relaxed. Don't try to force your mind to do it. Just be aware of that object and let it effortlessly become you. This too may take some time to get used to. But practice will make you get better at it. What is important in this meditation exercise is that you try to make yourself visualize a certain object effortlessly without forcing your mind to do so. What may be even harder to do the first time you are doing this exercise is how to maintain your visualization. There may be times that a passing thought or a distraction may occur in your mind that may let you lose focus. With practice in following these simple meditation instructions, you may be able to get used to developing your focus and concentration and keeping your mind free form distractions. By then, you will lea how to relax not only your body but also your mind.

Tips on Online Researching for Mental Health Articles

Researching on a very broad topic is work enough. Consolidating your research later is another story. It is common to encounter a bulk of scattered and non-linear resources when researching through mental health articles, both online and off line. But the truth is, even when these articles came from different authors with different ideas and issues in mind, the researcher should still be able to crop out the best ideas and consolidate them to make a decent and productive research. Here are some advices: a. Choose a single idea and expound it It is usually the case of scattered ideas for a personal research. The researcher would pick a random idea on mental health. This is a common practice but not really a good one. Picking an idea that popped out from nowhere indicates the lack of sufficient direction in your research. If you are using the keyword "mental health", it is best to skim through the topics first then take note of those which interested you most. Then research for the articles having the particular keyword on their titles. b. Research for online sites that are niched to article directories. Usually, some have free services while others require membership fees. However, you must not get stuck on using these directories alone. It is also best to make use of the large sources from individual websites. Psychological websites and websites advocating mental health normally have huge inventories of psychological articles that could support your research. There are also websites dedicated to individual disorders under the umbrella of mental illness. c. Validate your research Wikipedia or any academic websites are good places to start your research with. But research must not start and end on a single website. Try other websites and click on the links and suggested sources on each webpages that are relevant to your research. Take note of any recommendations on each web page. Searching through various resources would give you a comprehensive perspective for your research. Also, websites vary in their approach on hosting information. d. Try experimenting on keywords and keyphrases You can start with a simple keyphrase such as "mental health disorders" for your initial research. But as you advance in your study you will find that this topic is written in various articles adopting issues on different mental heath disorders. Take note of the general topic surrounding these articles. If you are looking for a specific idea such as changes in personality, you could look up personality disorders. This will then branch out to sub-categories that would direct your focus of research. Additionally, you will find, as you skim or read, on mental wellness articles pieces of ideas that would either broaden or narrow your research. e. Digest each information one at a time It is impossible to arrive at a decent research if you are tackling all information at once. Get sufficient sense of the topic on the articles then outline the ideas that interest you most. f. Don't get lost When researching for online articles, it is easy to get lost through the mass of available articles by clicking irrelevant links and suggested resources. This could be prevented by organizing your ideas first after some research and consciously tying all research to a single common thought. There is no discounting the fact that online research is tricky since it only takes some efforts to put up a professional-looking website that hosts mental health articles. But following the above advices could lighten the load of your research.

Early Sign of Autism

Jun 15, 2009

The first signs of autism occur during early infancy and the disorder is usually diagnosed by the age of three. The autistic symptoms vary from one patient to another, from mild to severe forms. The first waing sign is an abnormal response to different stimuli such as light or sound. Noises may appear painful to the child, smells are overwhelmingly strong and touches are painful. Loud noises and very bright lights trigger what is termed "meltdown". Autistic children are indifferent to their surroundings and are satisfied with playing and being alone. They show no real interest in toys and are usually uninterested in interacting with others. Patients with high functioning autism manage to develop some communication skills In some instances, words or phrases are used repetitively (echolalia) and their pattes of speech often lack expression or intonation. Resisting changes in their routine or repeating an action over and over again is a part of their daily behavior. In severe distress situations these children often engage in self-injurious actions like biting or scratching themselves or banging their heads. Waing signs in small children include rejection of touch, frequent behavioral outbursts, inexplicable attachment to some object and disinterest in others. Autistic children cannot maintain actual eye contact, they do not fear danger and they show an under sensitivity towards pain. In spite of all the efforts of parents and teachers, autistic children do not respond to normal teaching methods and verbal clues. They may give the impression of being deaf in spite of their normally developed hearing sense. Signs and symptoms of autism increase in severity during teenage years but seem to decrease during adulthood. Recent strides in treatment have made it possible for many autistic children to improve the quality of their lives dramatically.

Addiction and Personality Disorder

Substance abuse and dependence (alcoholism, drug addiction) is only one form of recurrent and self-defeating patte of misconduct. People are addicted to all kinds of things: gambling, shopping, the Inteet, reckless and life-endangering pursuits. Adrenaline junkies abound. The connection between chronic anxiety, pathological narcissism, depression, obsessive-compulsive traits and alcoholism and drug abuse is well established and common in clinical practice. But not all narcissists, compulsives, depressives, and anxious people tu to the bottle or the needle. Frequent claims of finding a gene complex responsible for alcoholism have been consistently cast in doubt. In 1993, Berman and Noble suggested that addictive and reckless behaviors are mere emergent phenomena and may be linked to other, more fundamental traits, such as novelty seeking or risk taking. Psychopaths (patients with Antisocial Personality Disorder) have both qualities in ample quantities. We would expect them, therefore, to heavily abuse alcohol and drugs. Indeed, as Lewis and Bucholz convincingly demonstrated in 1991, they do. Still, only a negligible minority of alcoholics and drug addicts are psychopaths. What has been determined is that most addicts are narcisstic in personality. Addictions serve his purpose. They place him above the laws and pressures of the mundane and away from the humiliating and sobering demands of reality. They render him the center of attention - but also place him in "splendid isolation" from the maddening and inferior crowd. Such compulsory and wild pursuits provide a psychological exoskeleton. They are a substitute to quotidian existence. They afford the narcissist with an agenda, with timetables, goals, and faux achievements. The narcissist - the adrenaline junkie - feels that he is in control, alert, excited, and vital. He does not regard his condition as dependence. The narcissist firmly believes that he is in charge of his addiction that he can quit at will and on short notice.

Natural Remedies for Losing Weight - Guarana

Guarana (Paullinia cupana) is another herbal promoted as a natural remedy for losing weight and is made from the seeds of a plant native to Brazil. The seed of the Guaraná is a central nervous system stimulant with thermogenic and diuretic properties. Basically what is in guarana is caffeine - up to two to three times the amount of caffeine that coffee has. Guarana is the richest-known source of caffeine. You can find guarana as a major ingredient in energy drinks, which don't state there is caffeine in the drink, but rather say it provides an energy boost. Rather an understatement, as it's more like a major buzz. Coffee contains 100 mg of caffeine, Coke or Pepsi 36 mg, and Energy Drinks any where from 169 to 259 mg. That's a rush. Guarana falls into a category of weight loss supplements called thermogenesis right along with ephedra, caffeine and salicin. Basically it boosts your metabolic rate, causing your body to bu calories faster plus curb the appetite. Body fat that isn't bued is stored on your hips, thighs, stomach, etc. If you are going to go for this kind of product in your weight loss jouey, you will need to find one strong enough to curb your appetite, that zips up the metabolism to bu more calories, create heat to bu more fat, and doesn't give unwanted side effects such as: jitteriness, nervousness, or heart palpitations. Taking a higher dose doesn't mean you lose weight faster. Instead, you just have more side effects. With thermogenesis based products drink more water (due to the heat factor), do not skip meals (low blood sugar), and do not take late at night (it will keep up awake) What you also need to remember with products that stimulate is stimulants bu calories, but increases heart rate and blood pressure. Caffeine suppresses the appetite, but gives you the jitters, mood swings and tension. What to choose? You will face some hard choices when it comes to deciding what might be the right natural remedy for losing weight for you. Guarana (or caffeine) may suppress appetite to a certain extent at high levels. On its own it's not a very effective supplement to create thermogenesis. Combine it with Ma Huang (Ephedra), and it appears the caffeine extends the appetite suppressing action of Ephedra and increases caloric expenditure. But you might not want to be combining two powerful stimulants together. And you most definitely do not want to be taking this if you are on blood thinner medications like Coumadin.

The “Quick Weight Loss Diet” Trend Disadvantage

If you wear a size 14 and you blow a bundle on designer size 8 dresses as motivation, you will probably end up feeling guilty, frustrated, and angry if you are not slinking around in it a month later. In reality, you will do much better setting smaller, achievable targets for yourself. If you must try the new-clothes strategy, go down a size at a time, and do not buy anything you have to take out a second mortgage to pay for. Because, if you continue to remorse on losing weight fast, you will end up incorporating fad diets or those that offer quick weight loss. For most people who are not aware of this fact, there are no such things as quick weight loss diets and there is no nippy weight loss for people who want to be slimmer than what their body can provide. The problem with most people is that they tend to opt for nippy fixes wherein fact these things are not effective at all. What Does Not Work Today, there are plenty of weight-loss strategies that are guaranteed to backfire. This is because these nippy fixes instilled on certain diet plans are, in reality, not efficient because it does not employ the right principle and the right attitude in losing weight. These quick weight loss diet plans are known as fad diets because that is exactly what they are, just a fad. In time, when fashion is over and popularity wanes down, people will realize that the diet they have depended on is not reliable at all. To know more about these fad diets that are selling like hotcakes in the market today, here is a list of some telltale signs that would tell you not to try it even once. Here they are: 1. Skipping meals Does your diet plan require you to skip meals? If it does, then, it is a fad diet. Abstain from food completely is not a healthy habit. It may even cause some serious complications or problems especially for people who are sick with diabetes. Skipping meals will only cause a hypoglycemia, or the condition wherein your blood sugar is really low, and will probably only be effective in making you eat twice as much at the next meal. 2. Dieting without exercise, or vice versa Exercise is crucial to the human body. It is important in the proper blood circulation and other activities of the human body system. Therefore, diet plans that do not require you to exercise are nuisances. People are bo to move. But then again, exercise alone is not sufficient. Hence, it would be better if diet and exercise will go hand-in-hand. 3. Continuous dawdling There is no better time to start losing weight. If you want to really lose those excess fats, you have to lose weight now. Delaying tactics will not get you anywhere and will only make the problem worse. So, if your diet plan suggests a certain timeframe for you start losing weight, chances are, you are following the trend of fad diets. Boiled down, it is best to rely more on the way you feel than the tale of the tape. This means that if the weighing scale tells you that you are losing weight even if it is slower than you would like, but you are feeling energetic and positive about your weight-loss efforts, then, you are just doing fine. As mentioned and is worth mentioning all over again, weight loss is not a quick process.

Music that You can Listen to While Meditating

Jun 14, 2009

For people who are into meditation, one of the most crucial factors for them to do the practice properly is to hear some meditation music. Depending on the form of meditation you are practicing, meditation music plays a very big role in achieving the success in any meditation session. What is meditation music should be People who have been practicing meditation for so long would definitely agree that the hardest thing to fight off during meditation is chatters or babblers. This is because this tiny sound can penetrate the mind and distract it from whatever it has been doing. To be able to avoid the distraction brought by this simple sound, they have found a way to fight it off using meditation music. Of all the many kinds of music out there, people—especially those who are just beginning—are having a hard time choosing which one would suit the practice. Here are some guidelines in choosing the meditation music for you: 1. Make sure that it doesn't have lyrics. In choosing meditation music, it is always best to choose music that has no lyrics because it can only distract your concentration. If you find plain rhythm boring, try to play something that has lyrics that your don't understand so you don't have to think what the song is saying. Aside from distracting your thoughts through the words you understand, music with lyrics will also encourage you to sing along which will totally shatter your concentration. 2. Relaxing music with soft rhythm is always advisable. For starters, this type of music will do you good because it will help you clear your mind and focus on something. But, if you are already in a higher level of meditation, you can choose music that have faster rhythm and beats or anything that your truly enjoy because this can no longer distract you. 3. Try to experiment. Although soft and relaxing music is always advisable, try to play other types of music. Who knows? You might find better concentration of you play something that you truly enjoy. 4. Simple and soothing music is sure to focus your attention. If you don't have the luxury of time to experiment on types of music to be played during meditation, then try surefire hits, which are simple and soothing music. Some of these may include classical sounds, sounds from the nature such as clapping of thunder, sounds of big waves, sounds of insects, and the wind. Other alteative options may also include simple instruments including tibetan singing bowl, flute, sitar, and tamboura which are known to have meditative inducing qualities. When choosing meditation music, it is very important to keep in mind that the type you should play must induce you to deep concentration and not into deep sleep. If you are the type who practices mediation in just one place, then it is best if you play the same meditation music all over again. But if you are the type who changes places, then it is best to bring along several types of medication music to help you adjust to the place. You can download the meditation music that you like from various meditation sites in the Inteet and bu in a CD. But if you bu have a portable MP3 player, it is best to upload the music there so you can listen to it anytime you want to practice meditation.

Atkins Pre Maintenance Phase

After experiencing the Induction and OWL phases of the Atkins diet, your next step is to enter the pre-maintenance phase. This phase will set you up for a lifetime of healthy and balanced eating and living. You should begin this phase as you come within 5 to 10 pounds of your target weight goal. Your weight loss will be slowed down even further but it is for a purpose. You want to lea the practices and habits that will determine your long-term success. In the OWL phase, you will be adding carbohydrate grams to your daily count in the increment of 5 grams per week. During pre-maintenance you will increase that to 10 grams per week. As long as you are continuing to shed weight (no matter how slowly it is coming off) you will continue to add grams. Ideally, toward the end of the pre-maintenance phase you will be losing less than one pound per week. According to the Atkins book, you should continue this phase until you get to your goal weight and can maintain it for a month. This process may take anywhere from 1 to 3 months. Your goal is to reach a state called "carbohydrate equilibrium." This is your ideal carbohydrate intake and it will cause you to maintain your weight perfectly. During pre-maintenance you'll get to try a wider variety of foods. Make sure to introduce new foods slowly and increase your carbohydrate intake at a measured pace. Don't add 20 or 30 carb grams a week. Measuring out the increases in increments of 10 will give you a better idea of your personal carbohydrate count. Knowing this number will help set you up for long term weight management. Make sure to check with a carbohydrate counter resource book or a trusted website before you add a new food to your diet. Some examples of 10 carbohydrate gram foods include 1/3 of a cup of legumes, ½ an apple, ¼ cup of potatoes and ½ cup of plain oatmeal. These foods can be included on a daily basis, and then increased the next week. Pre-maintenance is not a perfect process. It takes a delicate balance of carbohydrate counting and exercise to slow weight loss yet still move it forward. You'll need to pay even closer attention than you have before to make sure that your carb gram increase is not resulting in an increase in weight. There is a fine line between gaining, maintaining and losing, and during pre-maintenance you are trying to find out just exactly where that line is. If you aren't able to add carbohydrates without stalling your weight loss, you may have a high metabolic resistance. You will benefit from increasing your exercise regimen to get your metabolism buing at a higher level. For you, the pre-maintenance phase will resemble OWL more closely. Some people do a variation on pre-maintenance that allows them to have a treat once a week. Instead of adding 10 grams per day, they allow themselves a 20 to 30-carbohydrate gram treat a few times a week. Examples of the treat could be a piece of a fruit or a serving of sweet potatoes. A glass of white wine or beer also qualifies for this treat. This is a fun way to reward yourself and still be on the plan. Yet another way to do pre-maintenance is to average out your carbohydrate intake for the week. Since life is sometimes unpredictable, it can be helpful to have a bit of flexibility in your eating plan. For example, if your current carbohydrate level is at 70 grams, you can limit yourself to 50 grams one day. Then the next day, you can splurge a bit on a meal and have 90 grams for that day. However, only follow this method if it doesn't create carbohydrate cravings. Sometimes excess carb grams on one day can make you crave them even more the next day. The pre-maintenance phase will give you the tools for long-term success. By leaing to slowly increase your carbohydrate grams, you'll have a better hold on the amount of carbohydrates that is right for you. PPPPP (word count 690)

What do to when a Child with Juvenile Diabetes gets Sick

Jun 13, 2009

It's never fun when a child gets sick with a cold or flu. They don't feel good, sometimes get grumpy and need to be taken care of. This is true for a child with juvenile diabetes too, but there is the added conce of how their blood glucose levels will be affected by the illness. This is just another hurdle to deal with once your child has been diagnosed with diabetes. If you are giving your child an over-the-counter or prescription medicine be sure to read the labels and waing or talk to the pharmacist. Some medications will cause a child's blood sugar to be elevated and this should be taken into account when planning insulin dosage and meal plans. If your child is sick and has no appetite or is vomiting, it is still important that they take their insulin. By testing their blood sugar frequently you can determine an adjusted amount of insulin to give them but don't skip it entirely. If your child's blood sugar is too low and they cannot eat anything try giving them a soda that is not sugar free. Keep in mind that when your child is ill or stressed (or both) their blood sugar will be raised by that alone. If you are unsure how to help your child or you cannot get their blood sugars under control, call your doctor for advice. When your child is sick, check their ketones more often than just in the moing when they have fasted. If they are not eating because of nausea they could be spilling ketones into their urine and suffer from ketoacidosis. This is a serious condition that needs medical attention. Make sure your child is receiving their regular insulin injections and are drinking plenty of fluids in order to prevent this condition from developing.

Dieting and Fitness

When it comes to living a long and healthy life, there are two necessary ingredients: diet and fitness. While some believe that they are one thing all together, nothing could be further from the truth. It is quite possible to have a perfectly healthy diet with deplorable fitness habits. It is equally possible to be very physically fit with less than savory eating habits. There's a clever little line in the Jimmy Buffet song "Fruitcakes" when his 'lady' is lamenting: "I treat my body like a temple You treat yours like a tent" I can't help but think of this line whenever I think about all the people around the world who are going on these garbage in, garbage out diet plans hoping to achieve the weight loss success of those who are endorsing these products. To be completely honest, it is possible to shed pounds through diet alone. It is difficult but possible. It is also possible to be physically fit and have a few extra pounds hanging around. To a large degree we are what we eat. If we consume a high fat low substance diet our bodies are going to lack the fuel required to bu the fat. At the same time if we aren't providing our bodies with the tools it needs to build muscle it doesn't matter how many weights we lift. When it comes to diet and fitness, the best results are achieved when they work together rather than separately. Use your fitness routine to bu excess calories and use your diet in order to properly provide your body the nutrients and fuel it needs to build muscle. I've heard many times in my life that a pound of muscle weighs less than a pound of fat. While this is not true at all, a pound is a pound regardless; a pound of muscle occupies less space on the body than a pound of fat. Pound for pound, I would much rather mine be composed of muscle than fat. Dieting alone does not build muscle and that is something you will do well to remember in your efforts. You should also realize that as you are building muscle you may be shedding inches while not showing a great deal of progress on the scale. It is very important that you keep this in mind throughout the weight loss process. Do not measure your progress by the scales alone or you will achieve misleading results. The problem is that far too many people do just this and get frustrated and give up when they are actually making progress. Do not allow yourself to be a victim of the scales. Look in the mirror, try on your tight pants, and measure your waistline. Measure your success by how you feel after climbing a flight of stairs not by how many pounds fell of the scale this week. By incorporating fitness into your diet routine you are also enabling your body to bu off any extra calories you may have consumed during the day. This means that if you want to have a small 'cheat' during your day, you can make up for it by buing a few more calories than normal in the evening. This isn't something that should happen often but an occasional occurrence isn't going to make or break your diet. You should also look at dieting and fitness as a ball and glove type of relationship. While you can play ball without the glove, it seems to work so much better if you have both. Diet and fitness when combined can create fantastic weight loss results for those who take them both seriously. The thing to remember is that neither works as well alone and neither will work unless you are willing to do the work. You must make this a priority in your life in order to achieve the best possible results. PPPPP 653

Weight Watchers Dieting

Jun 12, 2009

When it comes to dieting there are very few organizations that have achieved the lasting success of Weight Watchers. They have been around quite a while and show no signs of stopping. More importantly, their success stories speak volumes for those who join and stick with the program. So what makes this program so successful when many others come and go? Community Believe it or not, one of the most important things about Weight Watchers secret to success, so to speak, is the sense of community that is forged between the men and women who are trying to lose weight. There is something humbling and exciting about standing in front of the scale week after week and sharing not only your personal successes and failures but also the failures and successes of others. Far too often we those who are dieting simply do not have an adequate support system at home. The bonding that is done during the Weight Watchers meeting is a strong bond of men and women who may come from different backgrounds and walks of life but who share a common goal for their futures-weight loss and better health. That is not a bond to be taken lightly particularly when they laugh and cry together. They are in their own way going through the trenches together and the success of this type of program for motivating and encouraging is nothing short of phenomenal. Evolution Weight Watchers has a patte for success but they are not beyond evolving with the needs of the time. While they will be the first to state that the most successful participants typically attend the meetings, Weight Watchers also offers alteatives for those with busy schedules and even those that are simply too afraid to go to the meetings. For these people there is the anonymity of online forums, message boards, and support groups. Weight Watchers hasn't limited its evolutionary process to this alone, they've also in recent years added a points system that allows dieters participating in their program to more easily gauge how well they are doing by their dietary standards and requirements without needing to count every single calorie or weighing their food. We live in a world of busy people and it is often more hassle than many dieters find to be worth the effort to count every single calorie (particularly when dining out). The Weight Watchers website is another example of their commitment to evolve and accommodate the diverse needs of the men and women participating in their program. If you haven't checked it out in a while you really should take a look and see what amazing insights and information they have to offer. Commitment to Fitness Weight Watchers knows that it isn't just diet that gets results. When you combine diet with exercise the results are much more immediate and more profound. The fact that Weight Watchers stresses the importance of exercise and physical fitness in addition to proper nutrition and changing your way of thinking when it comes to food is yet another reason for their widely known success. Weight Watchers is just one of many different weight loss and dieting programs in the market today. The fact that they have made a name for themselves and stand out above the rest in many ways is nothing to take lightly. It seems that there is a new weight loss program cropping up every other month or so and yet Weight Watchers continues to achieve visible and sustainable results in those who really work the program. Very few programs can make that claim for as long as Weight Watchers has been able to. When you combine all of the things mentioned above with the pre packaged foods that are offered by Weight Watchers, the extensive recipes that are available for Weight Watcher's participants, and a solid track record for success you would be robbing yourself of the potential for lasting success if you didn't at least see what the plan has to offer you. Hoodia Patch: The Alternative for Pills?

The hoodia diet is the new popular weight loss supplement that everyone has been talking about. It was introduced in November 2004 and has taken over the American market ever since. Today, weight gain has tued into more serious problem. Obesity has become rampant. It is experienced by individuals of all ages. With so many diet trends that have come and gone the majority of the public has given up hope in finding a solution. The new diet offers a new way of loosing weight. Unfortunately due to the popularity of the supplement several cheap imitations have spread all over the inteet. There are many brands that promise the diet's efficacy but don't contain 100% of the Hoodia gordonii powder which is its main and sole ingredient. It has also been marketed in different forms by several manufacturers. The latest is the patch, but is using transdermal technology as efficient as taking the pill itself? What is hoodia anyway? The first and original product is the Hoodia diet pills. Its main source comes from the hoodia gordonii plant from South Africa. It grows in the Kalahari dessert. The locals use it during long hunting trips to fend off hunger and thirst. Now it's used as a natural appetite suppressant to promote weight loss. It suppresses an individual's appetite by tricking the brain that he ore she has already consumed enough food. It releases a chemical much stronger than glucose on the satiety center of the brain. This center is located in the hypothalamus. This causes the hypothalamus to send a signal to the brain that it has already consumed enough food. The diet helps the individual control her appetite and cravings. Unlike other weight programs the individual control's the diet not the other way around. They don't have to prepare portions sized meals. It's a more comfortable way of reducing calorie intake. By taking less food there are fewer fats and calories to bu. What are the patches for? Other forms of hoodia diet have surfaced in the market. Other manufacturers have taken advantage of its popularity. Apart from pills it's also available in patches. This may seem like a convenient way. You don't need to take a pill just stick a patch and you're done. Unfortunately these patches are not clinically proven to be effective. Since birth control patches have become popular other manufacturers have decided to use this form for variety. It's a new twist to an already popular product to lure in customers. The patches are believed work by releasing its active ingredient through the skin and into the blood stream. It's convenient for those people who forget to take their pills. The pills are taken before meals but people eat at different times depending on their schedule. Busy people are also not sure when time their next meal is going to be. The logic behind it is that you can put it in the moing and forget about it. Patches come off when you sweat. It's not advisable for those who exercise and workout. It may also cause itching and skin irritations. Patches are also not easy to remember either. Some people may forget to replace them or they have come off. Hoodia patches' efficacy is vague at this time. If you are a serious dieter, make your own research first and then determine which form of hoodia is suitable for you.
